Both older and newer structures will require Tuckpointing, Caulking and Cleaning to survive the effects of environmental factors. Constant damage from varying temperatures, water, sun, acids in rain, building settlement, impact damage and dirt, will take their toll. Deteriorated brickwork weakens the structure and allows moisture, drafts and insects to invade your building or home. The most common means of water entry into a brick masonry wall is through debonded, cracked or deteriorated mortar joints. Restoration is necessary to help maintain the integrity of wall systems and products. Additionally tuckpointing can be used for newer structures where mortar needs to be replaced because of problems with colour or finish. Staying on top of this will protect your structure and save you money in the long run.
